How it works

Why should I sell my car with Boldthorn?

You should sell your car with us because we are able to give you a better price than other car buying services and we offer an on the spot service. Unlike other online valuation companies, the price we say is the price we pay.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Simply fill in the form or give us a call and one of our friendly local team instantly discuss your valuation and arrange a viewing at your convenience.

How and when will I receive payment for my car?

Our most popular payment method is electronic bank transfer directly into your bank account. This form of payment is instant (bank dependent) and there is no charge for this service.

What if I have outstanding finance against my car?

No problem - we will settle any outstanding finance on your vehicle as part of the transaction.

To enable us to do this we will need you to contact your finance provider to request an up to date settlement figure and your agreement reference number.

This settlement amount will be deducted from the amount paid to you for your car and we will send a faster payment directly to your finance providers bank account to settle the agreement

What if I have negative equity in the car?

We can still buy your vehicle even if you have any negative equity, but you would be responsible for the difference between what we offer you and the outstanding amount of finance you owe.

What if there are any mechanical issues or damage to my car?

If during the inspection, we discover something about the car that we didn't already know, we may have to change our valuation.

It's worth remembering however that our ideal goal is to buy your car at a price that makes you happy and would make you want to sell with us again in the future.

It is worth noting however that you are obliged by law to disclose all cosmetic and mechanical issues before accepting an offer from us.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to bring the following with you to your appointment:

  • The V5 logbook/registration certificate in your name at your current address
  • Both sets of car keys (if available)
  • All available service history and MOT certificates
  • Photographic ID showing your current address

How long does the appointment take?

The evaluation of your vehicle should take no longer than 15 mins, and if you are happy with our valuation and our subsequent offer, it should only take a further 5 minutes to complete the sale. However, you are more than welcome to spend longer with us over a coffee.

What if I do not have the V5 Logbook?

We need your original V5 document to allow us to purchase your car. If you do not have one, we advise you to contact the DVLA to obtain a new one.

Can I sell a car on behalf of a family member or friend?

This depends on the circumstances. We would advise you to contact us to find out how we can help.
